Volunteer Needs

If you are interested in volunteering in any of the areas listed below please sign up for one of the Get Plugged In events.

ReStore Volunteers: Opportunities are available for volunteers 16 years and older. The ReStore is open Tuesday-Wednesday from 9-5pm, Thursday-Friday from 9-7pm and Saturday from 9-4pm
Time commitment: 2-4 hours during ReStore business hours.

  • Display volunteers: Organize, clean, and maintain ReStore displays in the front show room as well as in the warehouse space. Price items and then stock them on shelves and display areas in the store. *Must be able to lift at least 25lbs.
  • Warehouse volunteers: Working on your own or as part of a team as you help to unload donations from our truck, move merchandise, test store items, and more. You are the behind-the-scenes volunteer who keeps our store stocked with great products and great deals. *Must be able to lift at least 50lbs.
  • Driver Assistant: Help pick up donations of building materials, appliances, and furniture in the community alongside our ReStore driver. Must be able to commit to helping once a week for at least 4 weeks. *Those volunteering to complete court ordered community service are not eligible to help in this position. *Must be able to lift at least 50lbs.
  • Metal Scrap Detail: Sort and organize metal scrap to be donated to support the Lancaster Habitat program. *Must be able to commit to helping once a week for at least 4 weeks.

Office Reception
Assist in answering phones, greeting clients, organizing, filing, database management and creating a welcoming environment in the Lancaster Area Habitat for Humanity office. If you are fluent in another language this knowledge is helpful, but not required.
Time Commitment: 2-3 hours during office hours Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.

Note Taker
Assist committee's by taking notes and minutes at scheduled committee meetings. Are you organized and detailed? Then you may be the perfect candidate to help to manage committee meetings by taking the minutes.
Responsibilities include: attending designated meetings, taking the minutes, sending final version of minutes to committee chair in a timely manner.
Time commitment: minimum one meeting monthly.

Development Committee
Solicit financial support for Lancaster Habitat from corporations, individuals, civic groups, churches, and foundations. This is a hands-on committee whose members go into the community to raise funds. The objective is to develop sustained giving as a means to eliminate sub-standard housing.
Time Commitment: 1 meeting monthly and community visits as necessary.

Volunteer Action Team
Create opportunities for current and potential volunteers to partner with Lancaster Area Habitat for Humanity as well as develop volunteers serving the organization. Responsibilities include: recruitment, development, appreciations, and long term volunteer experiences.
Time Commitment: One meeting monthly & additional volunteer events (3-5 hrs/month)

Lutheran Task Force
Empowered by God's unconditional love in Jesus Christ, the Lutheran Task Force will support Lancaster Area Habitat for Humanity's Mission in order to encourage local Lutheran congregations to grow in faith and serve our community and our world.
Time Commitment: 1 meeting monthly

Translators
Assist in translating conversations, meetings and documents on behalf of Lancaster Habitat. Currently there is a need for those that are fluent in Amharic and Spanish. If you are fluent in another language your services may still be helpful.
Time Commitment: Varies as necessary

Construction Safety

Prior to coming onto the construction site, each volunteer will need to complete an online safety course. The course should take you no more than 15 minutes, and will help to maintain a safe work environment!

Want to volunteer, but prefer to leave the hammer at home?

Lunch sponsors provide lunch for volunteers on the Habitat construction sites. Lunch sponsors generally provide enough food for 15-20 volunteers. Contact the volunteer coordinator for more information.
