Lancaster Area Habitat for Humanity is a non-denominational Christian housing ministry, working in partnership with local families in need to provide simple, decent, affordable homeownership opportunities to families who otherwise would not be able to afford homes of their own in Lancaster County.

Habitat for Humanity builds new houses and renovates older homes, then sells them at cost, with a 0% interest mortgage, to families in need. Habitat works through partnerships with volunteers, donors, churches, civic organizations, and future homeowners. Habitat provides construction expertise, recruits volunteer labor, raises money to rehabilitate houses and purchase materials. Habitat also provides guidance and support for the future homeowner in making the transition from renting to homeownership. In return, the future homeowner works side by side with community volunteers to complete 500 hours of sweat equity, building or renovating their own home and homes of others.
